Walk around Lac de Roselend

A long loop with no technical difficulty, staying close to the shore, past the chapel and across the top of the dam.

Figures from the source: Visorando, short walk along the shore of Lac de Roselend. Times are walking times without breaks; they vary with fitness, terrain and season.

The route

The lake loop stays between 1,505 and 1,715 m: no big climb, but a long day on foot. It hugs the shoreline, passes the Roselend chapel, crosses a few wooden footbridges and goes over the dam along its crest.

About a third of the route is on the tarmac road, which is very busy in summer: walk in single file on the verge. In the pastures, electric fences close off the cow enclosures; close the gates behind you.

Figures vary slightly with the exact route: Visorando gives 15.9 km and 505 m of ascent, Decathlon Outdoor about 15.7 km and 455 m.

What you see on the way

  • Roselend chapel
  • Crossing the dam along its crest
  • Wooden footbridges over the water
  • The Pierra Menta, the Rocher du Vent and Mont Blanc

Starting point

“Sous le Biolley” car park (1,629 m), on the Cormet road

The source does not publish the exact coordinates of the start: follow the description above and the source link.

Good to know

  • The reservoir level changes with how it is run: stay on the path, as exposed banks can be slippery.
  • No guaranteed drinking water on the loop: bring enough to drink for the whole day.

Before you set off

Check the weather and the lake webcams, and the state of the trail with the official source: a route can be closed (works, rockfall, snow) without this page knowing.
