Privacy

What data the AlpeSnow website processes, who it is shared with and your rights.

In short

AlpeSnow asks for no account, sign-up or form. There is no advertising, no audience measurement and no tracking cookie.

Data controller: Manuel Alonso, who publishes the site under the name AlpeSnow — prosavoie73@gmail.com

Host logs

As with any website, every visit goes through the host, Vercel Inc. (United States), which records the IP address, browser and requested address (including what follows the “?”) in its technical logs to run and protect the service (legitimate interest). Vercel participates in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The publisher can view these logs for one day at most; Vercel may keep them longer for the security of its service, under its privacy policy (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy).

Abuse protection

For the assistant and some on-demand forecasts, a counter limits the number of requests per visitor (legitimate interest: protecting the service). It is linked to a fingerprint of the IP address computed with a secret key (keyed hash), never to the address itself, and deleted after one minute, in a Redis database run by Upstash, Inc. (United States, Washington region; its data processing agreement provides for the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses) or, if that does not respond, in the server’s memory.

Assistant and search

Questions asked to the assistant, like searches, are part of the address of the request sent to our server. They are not recorded in any database, but they appear in the host’s logs (see above), and the answer stays at most 5 minutes in the host’s cache. A place name recognised in a question may be sent to the Open-Meteo geocoder, without your IP address.

Voice input uses the browser’s speech recognition, which may send the audio to its maker (Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge, Apple for Safari).

What stays in your browser

Your choices (day or night theme, language, units, followed towns, recent searches, windows already closed, your answer to the cookie banner) and the assistant conversation are kept in your browser’s storage (localStorage, sessionStorage). They stay in your browser; only the requests that need them (the weather for a followed town, the place of the previous question) go through our server. You can clear them in your browser settings.

Third-party content

Webcam images are loaded by your browser directly from their operators (credited under each image), who then receive your IP address. The same applies to map backgrounds (OpenFreeMap, IGN Géoplateforme, OpenTopoMap, NASA GIBS, RainViewer) and to the town search (Open-Meteo). The “my location” button on the road map uses the browser’s geolocation: your position stays in the browser, and only the map backgrounds for that area are requested.

The live video from our Albertville webcam (YouTube, Google), the Windy map and embedded webcam players (such as Skaping) only load if you click to show them, or straight away if you chose “Accept all” in the cookie banner; they may then set their own cookies. Videos opened from the resort map likewise load when you open them. Each service applies its own privacy policy.

If you write to us

Your message and address are used only to reply to you (legitimate interest). They are kept in the publisher’s Gmail mailbox (Google LLC, United States, a Data Privacy Framework participant) and deleted at the latest one year after the last exchange.

Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies for visitors; only the administrator receives login cookies, needed for the administration area. The third-party content above may set its own once shown: at your request, with a click, or straight away if you accepted in the banner.

Your answer to the banner is kept for 6 months in your browser (localStorage, with its date) and is not sent to our server; after that the banner appears again. Refusing, or not answering, does not limit your access to the site. You can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings”, at the bottom of the pages and below.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of data about you, or for its processing to be restricted, object to its processing and set instructions for what happens to it after your death, by writing to prosavoie73@gmail.com. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr), the French data protection authority.
