Mont Blanc webcam and views: viewpoints and summit weather

A view of the massif is not a camera on the summit

Each view states where it is taken from. For a climb, check high-mountain conditions in the official bulletins (mountain weather, avalanches) and with mountain guides or huts; a webcam is not enough to judge a route.

No camera is installed on the summit of Mont Blanc: this page brings together views of the massif taken from the valley, the ski resorts and the Goûter hut, with the estimated weather at the summit.

In short. Mont Blanc rises to about 4,806 m; its exact height varies from one survey to another. The views on this page are taken from other points (the valley, ski resorts, the Goûter hut, the Aiguille du Midi): they are views of the massif, not a camera on its summit. The temperature and wind shown are model estimates at the altitude of the summit.

Understanding the conditions

Where are these images of Mont Blanc taken from?

This page brings together 6 views: Aiguille du Midi · Mont-Blanc (3,842 m), Mont Blanc, Mont Blanc · 1840 m, Mont Blanc and Mont Blanc du Tacul - Mont Blanc, and 1 more view. The distance varies a great deal from one view to another: the Goûter hut and the Aiguille du Midi are at very high altitude, the others in the valley or at nearby resorts.

Where to see Mont Blanc: viewpoints

Several accessible spots give a clear view of the massif, according to the local tourist offices. In cloudy weather, check the nearest webcam first: a single cloud can hide the summit.

Aiguille du Midi (3,842 m)

The cable car climbs from Chamonix in about twenty minutes; the tourist office describes the view of Mont Blanc from the summit terrace.

Le Brévent (2,525 m)

On the opposite side of the Chamonix valley, reached by gondola then cable car: the tourist office presents it as a hiking spot facing the Mont Blanc range.

Lac Blanc

About 2 hours’ walk from the top of the Flégère gondola, with, according to the tourist office, a panorama of the glaciers and the finest summits of the massif. Swimming is prohibited.

Mont Joly (2,525 m)

Above Saint-Gervais, reached on foot from Le Bettex, Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce or Mont d’Arbois; the tourist office lists it among its hikes with a view of Mont Blanc.

Mont d’Arbois and Mont Joux

In Megève, the Mont d’Arbois gondola reaches the top in about ten minutes; at Mont Joux (1,958 m), a viewpoint indicator faces the massif.

Plateau d’Assy and Lac de Passy

In Passy, the Plateau d’Assy lies between the Fiz range and the Mont Blanc massif, and the Lac de Passy leisure area faces the massif.

Temperature and wind at the summit

The top of the page compares a model estimate at the altitude of the summit with one for Chamonix. Savoie Snow has no weather station on the summit: these are model values, useful for comparison, not for planning a climb.

Aiguille du Midi: the closest viewpoint

For a view from a point you can reach by cable car, and its weather at 3,842 m, see the Aiguille du Midi page.

Your questions

Before you go

Is there a webcam on the summit of Mont Blanc?

No, not among the views listed here. The images come from other points in the massif or from the valley, including the Goûter hut at 3,815 m.

Where can you see Mont Blanc from?

From the Aiguille du Midi, Le Brévent, Lac Blanc, Mont Joly, Mont d’Arbois and Mont Joux, or the Plateau d’Assy and Lac de Passy, according to the tourist offices. Check the webcam and the weather first: the summit is often in cloud.

How high is Mont Blanc?

About 4,806 m. The figure varies between surveys because the snow and ice cap on the summit changes; no single value is guaranteed.

What is the temperature on the summit of Mont Blanc?

The page shows an Open-Meteo model estimate at the altitude of the summit. It is not a measurement. For a climb, use the official mountain bulletins.

Can I judge a high-mountain route from these images?

No. An image shows one moment from one angle; it replaces neither the mountain weather bulletin, nor the avalanche bulletin, nor the advice of a professional.

This date says nothing about how recent the images or data are: the webcams are supplied by the credited operators and their timestamp shows when the image was taken; model forecasts and official reports are separate pieces of information, each with its own time. The forecast applies to the point and altitude shown in the weather block.
