Weather-model estimates at the stated altitude of each point, not measurements. Forecast snowfall is not the depth of snow on the ground. Source: Open-Meteo, updated every hour.
Snow in Alpe d’Huez in three separate pieces of information: the snow depth measured by the resort’s Météo-France post, the 7-day snow forecast at 1,860 m and at Pic Blanc (3,330 m), and the ski area’s webcams. Which slopes are open is in the official report.
In short. The Alpe d’Huez snow depth shown here is the latest reading of the resort’s Météo-France post (1,860 m), with its date: out of season, it is an old measurement. The snow forecast is a snowfall total calculated by the Open-Meteo model at the resort and at Pic Blanc. Open slopes, from 5 December 2026 to 25 April 2027 according to the ski area, are in its official report.
Understanding the conditions
Snow depth, snow forecast and open slopes: three different things
Snow depth is measured by a post, at its altitude and on its date. The snow forecast is a snowfall total calculated by a model: it says nothing about the snow already on the ground, settling or melting. Which slopes and lifts are open is decided by the operator and published in its report. These three do not add up.
Météo-France measures snow in Alpe d’Huez at two posts: one at 1,860 m, at the resort, shown at the top of this page, and one at 2,340 m. The reading is manual, once a day during the season; between seasons, the latest measurement dates from spring. The value applies to the post’s altitude, not to the whole ski area, which rises to 3,330 m.
The forecast above gives the expected snow day by day at the resort and at Pic Blanc. To compare with other massifs, our snow forecast by massif gives the expected total in the Grandes-Rousses, Alpe d’Huez’s massif in Météo-France’s bulletins, at 1,500, 2,000, 2,500 and 3,000 m.
According to SATA, Espace Alpe d’Huez has 250 km of slopes and 111 marked runs (34 green, 31 blue, 30 red and 16 black), with Auris-en-Oisans, Oz, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas, up to Pic Blanc (3,330 m). The Sarenne black run is 16 km long, one of the longest in Europe. The season is announced from 5 December 2026 to 25 April 2027.
The resort’s Skaping webcams show Pic Blanc (3,330 m), Marmottes III (3,060 m), Le Signal (2,114 m) and the Pic Blanc gondola (2,100 m), whenever they are sending images. An image shows what a place looks like at one moment: it does not measure snow and does not confirm that a slope is open.
According to SATA, the resort is about 1 hour from Grenoble via the A480 and the D1091, and 20 minutes from Le Bourg-d’Oisans up the 21 hairpin bends. Grenoble is the main railway station for the resort, then coach, shuttle or taxi.
On 19 April 2026, the Météo-France post “L Alpe d Huez (SATA)” (1,860 m) measured 117 cm of snow on the ground and 0 cm of fresh snow. This observation is old: it does not describe the current snow conditions. It is a measurement at the post’s altitude, not on every slope.
Is the snow forecast the same as the snow depth in Alpe d’Huez?
No. The forecast is snowfall to come, while the measured depth also depends on settling, melting, wind and the post’s altitude.
Where can I see which Alpe d’Huez slopes are open?
On SATA’s live openings page, linked on this page. Savoie Snow does not reproduce the slope status and does not infer it from images.
When does Alpe d’Huez open?
SATA announces the 2026-27 season from 5 December 2026 to 25 April 2027 (checked on 9 October 2026). Snow cover and the operator decide: check the report before you go.
Which avalanche bulletin covers Alpe d’Huez?
The Grandes-Rousses massif bulletin, published by Météo-France during the season. This page gives no avalanche danger level.
Are the Alpe d’Huez webcams live?
They are images refreshed regularly by Skaping for the ski area, not a continuous video stream. A view with no image for more than 24 hours is not shown.
Sources and method
Text of this page last revised on . This date says nothing about how recent the images or data are: the webcams are supplied by the credited operators and their timestamp shows when the image was taken; model forecasts and official reports are separate pieces of information, each with its own time. The forecast applies to the point and altitude shown in the weather block.
